Francoise Huguier

Françoise Huguier is a passionate traveller, writer, director and photographer.

When she was 8 years old in Cambodia she was held hostage by the Viêt Minh and her book ‘J’avais huit ans’ (I was 8 years old) published in 2005 relates this true story.

She fell in love with Africa as she was travelling across it and has written a number of books on her travels. In 1991 Françoise discovered and popularized the works of photographers Seydou Keita and Malick Sidibé. She also organised the first Biannual Exposition of African Photography in Bamako in 1994.

Françoise’s photography especially in the fashion medium have appeared in daily newspapers and well known magazines such as Vogue, Marie-Claire and the New York Times magazine. She has also shot advertisements for brands such as Lanvin and Lacroix among others.

In 2001 Françoise moved to St Petersburg where she explored communities living in collective flats. The results of these studies resulted in a book titled ‘Kommunalki’ through which she received a grant for the National Centre of Cinematography in order to make a documentary on the same subject.
