Colia Vranici, born in Dunkirk in 1988, discovered cinema at Studio 43, the city’s only art house. She moved to Paris for her studies before working as casting director, assistant director and production assistant for directors such as Rabah Ameur-Zaimeche, Albert Serra and Jacques Doillon. In 2012, she directed her first short film Les Enfants de Jean Bart, then followed a master’s degree in cinema at the Geneva School of Art and Design (HEAD) as well as at the Cantonal School of Art in Lausanne (ECAL) where she directed Le miel est plus doux que le sang, selected at the 67th Locarno Film Festival. In 2016 she directed Jungle, portrait of a young Afghan hairdresser, shot in the Calais jungle during the dismantling of the southern zone. The film was selected at FID, presented at MoMa in New York and won the France Télévisions prize at the Festival Tous Court in Aix-en-Pro- vence. In 2018, she shot Mauvais Oeil.
