Self-Portrait on a Strike Background was initially conceived as a making-of documentary for the Alexander von Humboldt Archive exhibition during 2019 between Latin America and Europe. However, its meaning evolved into a fictionalized essay based on filmed diaries recorded in the context of widespread strikes: Haiti, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, France, and other countries. The general atmosphere of these events was one of intense police and military repression, which has transformed curfews into a bad habit of governance. The personal journey, as it drifts through the most commonplace places, reveals paradoxes related to power, the arts, politics, and history. A crafty film production and editing triggered by the question: Can an intimate diary become a memory?
