The film Following Flaubert (Suivre Flaubert) combines places and landscapes of the Mediterranean island of Corsica with travel diary entries by Gustav Flaubert which he noted down during a round trip in 1840. The film reconstructs the course of Flaubert's historical journey and adds to it impressions and encounters of a journey through Corsica in the present.
The interweaving of Flaubert's language, historical travel photographs of the 19th century, camera obscura photographs and film elements creates the possibility of a convergence - with the historical and contemporary appearance of Corsica, its culture and the everyday life of its inhabitants.
