In today's society we are daily invaded by images of beautiful and young bodies. Older bodies are hidden and forgotten as if they were steeped in negativity. In this film we are faced with these bodies, naked and happy, on a day-to-day of a beach in Lisbon area. After all, aren't these bodies beautiful, happy, full of life? Why do we refuse to see ourselves in those bodies, if they are ultimately the testimony of a long and rich experience? In "A Praia" (The Beach), the elderly come back to active life, they leave the places of suffering or loneliness, contempt or scorn they sadly inhabit in contemporary societies. They play, swim, run, have fun. They are back to being people like everyone else.
Na sociedade actual somos diariamente invadidos por imagens de corpos bonitos e jovens. Os corpos mais velhos são escondidos e esquecidos como se estivessem impregnados de negatividade. Neste filme somos confrontados com esses corpos, desnudos e felizes, no dia-a-dia de uma praia da região de Lisboa. Afinal, não serão estes corpos bonitos, alegres, plenos de vida? Porque recusamos rever-nos nesses corpos, se estes são afinal o testemunho de uma longa e rica vivência? Em A Praia, os idosos regressam à vida activa, abandonam os espaços de sofrimento e solidão, de desprezo e menosprezo a que se foram tristemente habitando nas sociedades contemporâneas. Divertem-se, brincam, nadam, correm. Voltam a ser gente como toda a gente.
