Alexey Pivovarov
(Russia)

Born 1974, Aleksei Pivovarov is a Russian TV journalist, documentary maker and producer. In 2008 he became a managing editor and a prime time news anchor at NTV, the largest independent television network in Russia with an estimated viewing audience of over 100 million people. In recent years Aleksei wrote, produced and presented five docudramas about World War II. Based on thorough research, newly released historic documents and interviews with experts and surviving witnesses, each film sheds new light on events of the recent past, deviating significantly from the version imposed by official soviet historiography. All five films generated a wide response among the public. One of the films, Rzhev: General Zhukov’s Unknown Battle was awarded a special prize at the 2009 NIKA Ceremony (the Russian Oscar). In 2011 Aleksei participated in a joint Russian-German documentary project about the events leading up to World War II, acting as producer and one of the on-screen presenters. In 2010 Aleksei was the recipient of Russian GQ’s Media Person of the Year Award.
