Jean-Gabriel Périot was born in 1974. In 1998, he began gaining experience in documentary editing while working in the short film and creative department at Canal Plus, and later as an editor for documentaries on Arte and France 3. At the same time, he collaborated with several choreographers and worked on video installations for exhibitions at the Musée du Quai Branly, before embarking on his own personal projects in 2000. He often constructs his films using pre-existing archives—photographs, films, internet files… His work reflects on the polymorphic nature of violence in our societies. Everything is conveyed through the power of images, without narration or commentary: a cinema of thought.

Through his films, Jean-Gabriel Périot plays with image manipulation. Favoring syncopated editing, he moves away from aesthetics to focus on discourse—inevitably political—and steps beyond the image to engage with space. He enjoys blurring the lines between cinematic genres (documentary, experimental, fiction, animation), often positioning himself where least expected.
