Yin-Yu Huang
(Taiwan)

Yin-Yu Huang was born in Taitung, Taiwan, and now lives in Japan. He received his BA in Radio & Television from National Chengchi University, and MA in Filmmaking from the Graduate School of Tokyo Zokei University. In college, Yin-Yu Huang started to write film reviews for numerous publications and magazines in Taiwan.

His first documentary short “Wuguwang N. St. to Taipei”(2010) is an anthropological film about Thai labors in Taiwan, which participated in Beijing Independent FilmFest, Guangzhou International Doc FilmFest among others. Yin-Yu Huang’s second documentary “Temperature at Nights”(2013) is a private film which portrays the past memory of his own homosexual experience in the military service, and was selected in the international competition of Visions du Réel International Film Festival, Buenos Aires International Doc FilmFest, and nominated for the best documentary of Taipei Film Awards of Taipei Film Festival and others.

In 2013, Yin-Yu Huang made a short documentary “YAMAMORI”(2014) for the “Grand Voyage” project, which is produced by Naomi Kawase, as a part of Nara International Film Festival.
In 2015, Yin-Yu Huang founded his own production company Moolin Films, Ltd. in Taiwan, and made a TV documentary for “70 years anniversary after War ended” for NHK & PTS (Taiwan Public Television). Now he’s based in Okinawa, producing a series of documentaries about pre-War immigrants and colonialism remains in Okinawa region of Japan.
