Iris Lebrun is a young documentary filmmaker and a French video journalist living in London. She has studied in France, Belgium, Romania and the United States and acquired two bachelor degrees in journalism and video journalism. She has worked previously as a freelance TV journalist for a national TV news channels in France called BFM TV. Her varied work experiences and working class family background have inspired an interest in observational and intimate documentary portraits. During her second bachelor degree in France, she made a short cross- portrait documentary about two female to male transgender that focussed on the cultural and society pressure of transitioning called Born a woman. Recently she has participated to the Ridley Scott and Tony Scott RSA film company as a collaborative filmmaker for Project Wisdom, a user generated documentary. She is particularly interested in social justice issues, especially class and gender. Iris is currently studying documentary making at the Royal Holloway University of London. Her work incorporates a variety of storytelling devices ranging from direct cinema to performance. She is currently working on a unique and experimental documentary, which explores in an immersive way the fissures in family relationships and the way personal identity is formed. Iris is in love with documentary and eager to create universal narratives from personal mythology. She views story telling as a tool to explore and question the cultural and ideological issues of the society we are living in.
