Štefan Kamenický
(Slovakia)

Štefan Kamenický (July 1932 – January 2009) was a well-known Slovakian director of social documentaries.

Stefan originally studied journalism and worked for many years as a journalist. One of Stefan’s best known films Enchanted Valley (1966) dealth with the difficult situation in Eastern Slovakia concerning men going to work in the mines of Moravia and leaving women behind to live in poverty. The documentary focused on taboo issues such as alcoholism, poverty and underdevelopment.
