After studying literature and working as an actor and stage director, Arnaud Des Pallières (born 1961) studied film at La Fémis, where he directed his first short films. The seminal moment in his film career, however, seems to have been the conference by Gilles Deleuze “Qu’est-ce que l’acte de creation ?/ What is the act of Creation?” which he filmed with Arnaud Dauphin in 1987. He did his first feature film in 1996: Drancy Avenir, a historical, poetic and philosophical inquiry on the Holocaust. He then did two medium-length films for television: Is Dead (Incomplete Portrait of Gertrude Stein) (1999), a free "portrait" on Gertrude Stein, and Disneyland, My Old Home (2001), a journey to the land of Mickey created in the form of a nightmare in the dark days of childhood. His second feature film, Adieu (2003) with Michael Lonsdale, Aurore Clément, Laurent Lucas, Olivier Gourmet, crosses several stories, profiling a painful inhospitable France, indifferent to the plight of illegal immigrants sent to their home countries. Park, adapted from a novel by John Cheever, is his third feature film. Arnaud des Pallieres is the writer and editor of his films. He is currently working on an adaptation of the famous Heinrich von Kleist's novel Michael Kohlhaas.
