Luís Alves de Matos was born in 1962 in Lisbon and graduated from Lisbon’s Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. Since 1993 he has collaborated in many contemporary art projects and directed several documentary films about Portuguese artists. In 2001m he founded an independent film production company, Amatar Films that has produced a series of contemporary art documentaries and experimental films. His documentary, “A Fazer o Mal”, won as award at the X Encontros Internacionais de Cinema Documental da Malaposta in1999 and in 2008 and 2011 he won the award for Best Portuguese Film at the Temps d’Images Cinema Awards with the films “Lost in Art – Looking For Wittgenstein” and “Luz Teimosa”, respectively. He has served as a jury for several festivals, including Festival de Gramado (2011) and Primeiro Olhar of Encontros de Viana (2012).
