Born in 1981 in Porto, Portugal, he attended the Ateliers Varan documentary workshop in 2006, where he directed the short film Entre-Tempos, which received the Young Filmmaker Award at the Vila do Conde International Short Film Festival. He has since worked in cinema as both a filmmaker and director of photography. In 2008, he co-directed the feature documentary Bab Sebta with Pedro Pinho, which received awards at festivals including FIDMarseille and Doclisboa, and also directed the short film Zonne d’attente #00. In 2014, he completed Revolução Industrial, a feature-length documentary co-directed with Tiago Hespanha, which premiered at Visions du Réel. In 2017, he completed a Master’s degree in Cinematography at ESCAC in Barcelona. As a director of photography, he has collaborated with filmmakers and artists such as Von Calhau, João Vladimiro, André Gil Mata, Callisto Mc Nulty and David Ferreira. His most recent film, When the Land Runs Away (2024), premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival. In 2020, he co-founded the film cooperative Rua Escura CRL together with André Gil Mata, João Vladimiro and Luís Palito.
