Miloslav Novák
(Czech Republic)

Miloslav Novák (born 1978 in Dvůr Králové nad Labem, Czechoslovakia) graduated from the Private Film School in Písek (SVOŠF). After his studies at the Department of Editing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) he worked as a journalist in the Czech papers Lidové noviny and Literární noviny. He continued his studies at the Department of Documentary Film, studying concurrently at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University (FF UK). In 1997, he made a short film Dangers of Loneliness (Special Mention at the IAFF in Annecy in 1998). In 2001, he filmed the documentary profile J.C. – Experience with Expressionism/J.C. – Zkušenost s expresionismem about the distinguished Czech film and literary critic Jiří Cieslar. In 2003, he co-directed the film The Ill-fated Child/Zlopověstné dítě together with Lucie Králová, awarded the best documentary at the Jihlava IDFF. During his six-month stay at the university in Cagliari, Sardinia, he made the film Is Mortorious about blind people’s perception of hearing.
