Martin Řezníček
(Czech Republic)

Martin Řezníček (born 1960) graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT). There he founded a film club active until today. He worked as research assistant and laser repairman in the Institute of Physics at the Academy of Sciences of (then) Czechoslovakia. He made educational films for ČVUT. In 1989, he was accepted to the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), subject documentary film. He was member of the Parliamentary Commission for the Investigation of the Events of November 17. From 1991, he works as free-lance director and cameraman, making primarily documentary films for the Czech Television. There he also worked as editor and director of investigative reports for the programme Nadoraz until it was cancelled by the CT administration. From 1994 he cooperates with the People in Need organization on the realization of documentary film projects. In 1997, he graduated from FAMU, subject documentary film. He also spent two years at the photography department. From 1999 to 2002, he directed a children’s debate programme Tykadlo. He also co-created the programme Na Hraně until it was cancelled; thereafter, his cooperation with CT slackened. From 2002, he is the head of the course Investigative methods in documentary filmmaking at FAMU; from 2005, he is the head of one of the documentary film workshops at the Department of Documentary film.
