Clio Barnard is a British filmmaker and artist. She is known for her focus on social realities and a style that blends fiction and documentary. She gained recognition with The Arbor in 2010 which blended fiction and documentary powerful effect. The Arbor was highly acclaimed at festivals worldwide and was a recipient of many awards and included in many years best lists. Her first wholly fictional feature film, The Selfish Giant (2013) inspired by a story by Oscar Wilde received similar acclaim. Her subsequent features Dark River (2017) and Ali and Ava (2021) have been well received by critics and public alike. Her latest film I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning (2026) has been selected for the Directors Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.
