Šarūnas Bartas
(Lithuania)

Šarūnas Bartas (1964) is a Lithuanian film director. He began his career as an actor in the mid-1980s. In 1986 he made a short student film Tofolaria. From 1986 to 1991 he studied in Moscow. In 1989 he founded the first Lithuanian film studio Kinema. His feature debut is Tri dne (Three Days) from 1992. His first three feature films starred his wife Ekaterina Golubeva, who also co-wrote the screenplays for his films Few of Us (1996) and The House (1997) - both screened at the Cannes IFF in the Un Certain Regard section. His film Freedom (2000) was screened in the main competition section at the Venice IFF. His most recent film to date, At Dusk, was screened in the Official Selection of the Cannes 2020 IFF and at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
