Gianluca De Serio
(Italy)

Gianluca and Massimiliano De Serio (Torino, 1978) have been teaming up since 1999 to make films, documentaries and installations and take part in exhibitions and film festivals in Italy and abroad, winning numerous awards for their works. Their documentary L'esame di Xhodi (2007) won the Special Jury Prize at the Torino Film Festival and was selected for festivals such as the Cinéma du Réel in Paris, the Montevideo Film Festival and the Rome Film Festival. Their 2010 film Bakroman received the Best Italian Documentary Award at the Torino Film Festival, while in August 2011 their first feature film, Sette opere di misericordia, screened in competition at Locarno and won two prizes: the Don Quixote Award and the second prize, Youth Jury. In September 2015, their second feature-length film, I ricordi del fiume, premiered at the Venice Film Festival before going on to Visions du Réel in Nyon. In September 2020 they returned to Venice with Spaccapietre, the only Italian film in competition at Giornate degli Autori.

Since 2006 they have worked closely with the production company La Sarraz Pictures in Turin.
