Moara Passoni is a Brazilian born filmmaker based in New York City. Moara is an MFA candidate on screenwriting-directing at Columbia University where she is a Teaching Fellow and recipient of the Faculty’s Film Program Scholarship. Moara is a co-chair for Columbia Women in Film.

She has a B.A. in Social Sciences (Anthropology, Sociology and Political Sciences) at the University of São Paulo (where she graduated with the highest grade of her year), studied Dance and Performance at PUC, and Philosophy and Aesthetics at Paris 8. She has two masters on Documentary theory and making: University of Campinas and Getúlio Vargas Foundation (Brazil). She studied French language and literature at La Sorbonne in France and documentary making at EICTV in Cuba.

Moara has begun her career in filmmaking working as an assistant director to the Acclaimed Award Winner Brazilian director Kiko Goiffman. She has also served as a programmer, curator, and coordinator for several film and photo exhibitions in Brazil, Paris, and NYC and worked as Latin American journalist to the Le Monde Diplomatique Brasil.

Moara co-wrote and associate produced the documentary THE EDGE OF DEMOCRACY (Netflix Originals) released at the first night of SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL 2019. Currently, she's directing her first feature GLASS UNDER MY SKIN. She served as a co-writers to the feature OLMO AND THE SEAGULL, co-wrote MY BODY, MY RULES - a video that reached more than 12 million views in three days. She was an associated producer for ELENA.
