Mark Ther
(Czech Republic)

Mark Ther is a leading Czech visual artist and director of short forms. In 2011, he received the Jindrich Chalupecky Award for the short film Das wandernde Sternlein. In his production, he has devoted himself to the often forgotten stories of Czech-German coexistence, with such subjects as the camp and queer aesthetics, and often balances on the brink of a fictional document. His films speak the language of music videos as well as narrative conventions of a feature movie and personal reports. At the same time, the films provide a comical relief to important social issues. The short movie Mitsu is his first realization supported by the Czech Film Fund, thanks to which Mark Ther establishes himself among film professionals. He often presents his work at such foreign exhibitions and film festivals as Berlin, New York or at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. In the long run, he has also pursued a development of his feature-movie debut, The Beautiful Voice.
