Hind Benchekroun

Hind Benchekroun is a writer and a filmmaker born in Morocco, currently living in Montreal, Canada. In 2002, she developed a documentary series with Production Multi-Monde, Rebel Music Quebec, that was broadcasted on Télé-Québec and TV5. In 2006, Hind worked on production at the National Film Board of Canada on a documentary series called Racism in the workplace. In 2003, she directed La petite fille d’avant that was presented at Festival Vues d’Afrique and at Le festival Du Monde Arabe in Montréal. She also codirected Taxi Casablanca (2008), a documentary about the unique woman taxi driver in Casablanca broadcasted on TV5. Furthermore, she codirected three short films: Caressing time, Tea time and Êtres. Her first collaboration with Sami Mermer was on the film La Boite de Lanzo (2006), a documentary about homeless people in the US. Turtles do not die of old age (2010) was her first feature length documentary, which she codirected with Sami Mermer. They won the Grand Prize of the International Film Festival of Tétouan in Morocco. The film was also a Jutra nominee and had a mention in Les Rendez-vous du Cinéma Québécois. It travelled in many festivals around the world.
