The film, shot from a boat floating in St. Johann’s Rapids on the Vltava River, became the first Czech film awarded abroad (Grand Gold Medal at the 1st International Film Exhibition in Vienna in 1912). The film’s author, Antonín Pech, was inspired by the work of Jan Kříženecký. In 1911, he and his partners founded Kinofa and started producing documentary and fiction films.
