Focusing on Abu Dis, a Palestinian neighbourhood in east Jerusalem, Good Times offers a most striking image of the separation wall built by the Israeli government. This immense wall, which has divided the neighbourhood in two, appears regularly in newspapers, magazines and on TV, but what was life like in Abu Dis before the wall was built? This documentary begins by showing Abu Dis before the construction of the existing wall, when a temporary wall was built in the centre of the neighbourhood, and continues by depicting the life of the people who live nearby as the permanent wall is erected. The inhabitants of Abu Dis and the Israeli soldiers posted in the neighbourhood share an absurd daily routine and the relationship between them is revealed as a microcosm of life in this part of the world. Via this ongoing documentation of the happenings in this specific location, the film narrates a fundamental historical event from the very beginning to the interim conclusion it arrives at.
