From Lebanon’s notoriously tough Roumieh prison, Daccache’s third film sheds light on inmates living with mental health conditions. Lebanese penal code from 1943 stipulates that “Mad” or “Possessed” offenders shall be incarcerated until they can evidence “being cured”, yet psychological and medical care are absent from Lebanese prisons, meaning offenders with mental health conditions are in reality serving a life sentence. In the film, Daccache involves “regular” inmates to represent in a theatre production the stories of the inmates who have been dismissed as “insane”, most of them isolated within a building called The Blue Building, and convey their messages to the outside world and to decision makers with the hope of changing the status of those forgotten behind bars - and preventing a similar “life sentence” fate for future inmates.
