A woman sits at her typewriter and thinks, she smokes, remembers, listens to music, tango naturally, and knows, "Buenos Aires and Montevideo are far away". But then she takes us on her journey to the other end of the world, back to the time of the turn of the century, when tango was created in the port pubs of Argentina. What's a tango? Helke Misselwitz interviews books and old films and even an Argentinean. "A tango happens or it doesn't happen, and even if it doesn't happen, it's a tango," is his enigmatic answer. The spectator travels into the world and into time. And stays in that little room. A look at life behind insurmountable walls. And at the same time a dream of sinking into dance and music, of strangeness and the familiar, of letting oneself fall and being caught - a tango dream.
