This dramatic story of three families takes place during the major social changes brought about by the collapse of communism and the creation of democratic Czechoslovakia. Their fates are linked by Havel’s amnesty and events in the Leopoldov prison. The idea of the amnesty was to underline that the previous system of justice was dysfunctional. But there was great discontent among the prisoners and subsequently a riot broke out in Leopoldov.
