In a three-part role, Jan Werich portrays the storyteller, castle warden, and magician Oliva, arriving in a small town with the beautiful artist Diana, and a magical, sunglasses-wearing tomcat. When the cat’s sunglasses are removed, the creature can unveil the true characters of adult humans. Fearing the loss of their positions through such transparency, several locals kidnap the tomcat. This fantastical comedy won the Special Jury Prize at Cannes in 1963 and continues to enthral with its fantastic exteriors and multicoloured experimental celluloid techniques.
