Director Claire Simon is interested in the banal details of the everyday; her camera points to the liminal spaces once occupied as shuffling masses. In the time of Coronavirus, an exploration of the daily occupants of the Gare du Nord seems like a subversive act. But the depth and range of conversation elicited from the people in the station by Simon and her partner Simon Mérabet, who acts as a kind of interlocutor, would be a remarkable achievement in any age.
