Pavel Kohout is a distinctive personality in 20th century Czech culture. The film gets under the skin of Kohout’s personality and is made up of banal moments for which Pavel Kohout doesn’t have a ready answer. The basis of the film is the fact that during a normal conversation with Kohout, one can hear a variety of different stories and anecdotes that, as we later discover, exist in written form and have already been codified by their author. The goal of the filmmakers was, then, to try to capture a portrait of Pavel Kohout in “uncodified” form.
