Pavla Mudráková received a special mention in My Street Films competition primarily for her ability to accentuate and create drama of material that can be overlooked and seen as quotidian. Her documentary Bearers of Life looks at the people who breeder animals, the film shows those who breed rabbits, hens, and pigeons. In the context of the discussion about animal rights, information and understanding about breeders often gets lost. The documentary attempts to reveal an under-considered side of animal breeders, depicting a group of people whose animals mean everything to them give them. Ultimately the film depicts the level of attentiveness and care that humans possess towards their fellow furry, what Donna Haraway terms, ‘messmates.’
