Richard Wiebe

Richard Wiebe is a filmmaker and PhD candidate at the University of Iowa where he teaches nonfiction filmmaking, screenwriting, film theory, and film sound. His dissertation focuses on Marine Corps watercolour painters and cinematographers during World War One.

He is the co-founder and co-director of Works-in-Progress (WiP), a non-competitive festival that programs unfinished work by artists working in virtually every medium.

Wiebe’s short films have screened at various international venues including Ann Arbor Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Media City, 25 FPS, IndieLisboa, Antimatter and others.

He has also spent time in China studying contemporary underground cinema.
